Located in Canandaigua, New York, the Granger Homestead is a stately Federal style house built in 1816 by Gideon Granger, Postmaster General under Presidents Jefferson & Madison. Three generations resided here until the Homestead became the Granger Place School for Girls in 1876. In 1905, the Homestead returned to the family. After the deaths of the last family members the home was used by retired Congregational ministers. In 1945, when the Homestead was threatened with destruction, the community rallied to save the site and a non-profit organization was established.
The Carriage Museum displays 70 horse-drawn vehicles in three historical outbuildings.
