The Granger Homestead Society announces the second of two pianoforte
concerts “A Program of Music” The concert will be performed on May 18 at
Four O'clock in the afternoon on the recently restored very rare 1822
Clementi Pianoforte. The only
other known examples that exist today are in
Europe
. We are extremely fortunate to have
the only example in the
United States
.
The concert will be held at the Granger Homestead mansion,
295 North Main Street
, Canandaigua. Stepania Neonato,
Master in Fortepiano Performance will perform a selection of pieces composed by
Beethoven and Muzio Clementi, creator of the pianoforte.
This event will be Stefania’s final performance in the
United States
before her concert tour of South American countries and return to her home in
Italy
.
The pianoforte’s first known home in Canandaigua was the Paul House
at
39 North Main Street
. Its whereabouts from its
manufacture in
London
circa 1822 to its arrival in Canandaigua remain a mystery.
It was in poor condition at the time that Anne McKechnie donated it to
the
Homestead
in 1956, but was a suitable instrument to grace the rooms of the 1816 Granger
mansion. The instrument was
unplayable until its’ recent restoration by Edward Swenson of Trumansburg, New
York. Now that this fine old
instrument is properly restored, we look forward to an era of exquisite and
enjoyable music in the Homestead’s North Parlor.
